Ski Conditions

I guided a Wapta Traverse from Bow Lake to Sherbrooke Lake.

The weather was mostly clear with reasonable overnight freeze and light to strong southerly wind.

In addition to parts of the regular route, we skied the Vulture Col to Balfour hut option and the Diableret Glacier. The coverage overall was very variable ranging from 50cm on glacier ice to 340cm+. The snow quality was good. From a distance, we observed lots of open crevasse and thin coverage on the route to the Mt-Olive St-Nicholas Col.
We opted for the Nunatak route for the first part of the Balfour High Col. The descent toward Sherbrooke Lake was still supportive, but some of the creek crossing are starting to be thin. The trail from Sherbrooke Lake to the highway has several trees and branches to navigate.

Other than a few small loose wet on step solar aspect, we witness a large serac fall on the night of Saturday to Sunday from Mont Balfour. The debris covered a large part of the bench.
